HIPPO Posters- (3X60min)

Students design posters to illustrate the HIPPO concept that explores reasons for declining biodiversity. The HIPPO acronym stands for Habitat loss, Introduced species, Pollution, Population growth, and Over consumption. Posters are presented and displayed. Reflection questions ask students to examine HIPPO impacts on ecosystems in their local community.

Biodiversity- The Spice Of Life- (2X60min)

Students participate in a teacher-led activity that encourages them to appreciate the importance of protecting biodiversity while helping them to discover how their own beliefs and values influence their thinking about biodiversity. The resource touches on the means by which medical and economic contributions, ecological processes, and recreational activities are sustained by the variety of life that exists on earth.  Students also explore the aesthetic value of maintaining bio- diverse ecosystems.

Ecoregion IQ- (5X60min)

Students create a board game to describe the Global 200 Ecoregions. After researching the nine regions by using the Wild World Website and Interactive Wild World map as well as other sources from the print media, teams of students write 25 questions (5 for each category) on animals, geographic features, climate, threats, and fascinating facts. These are placed on a game board template which is also student-created. Teams challenge each other, collecting points for correct answers.
