Sum of the Parts

Elementary, Middle

Description

In Sum of the Parts students define point and non-point pollution and consider how their choices contribute to pollution and shaping the world they live in.

  • Students are given a riverfront piece of land and one million dollars to develop it with. They draw and label what they'd like to have on a puzzle piece representing their land.
  • When the puzzle is fitted back together, questions presented by the teacher help students reveal the effects of their land use and the difference between point and non-point pollution.
  • A written reflection is suggested for assessment.
